Some of the best advice I’ve ever heard came from my good friend Seuss. It’s true. When times were tough, money was tight and it seemed as if the world had a grudge against you, Dr. Seuss always had simple straight-forward advice about being true to yourself.
There isn’t much more you can ask of a human being other than to be true to yourself, now is there? But there is a trick to being true to yourself, and it’s a decision we make every morning when we wake up and climb out of bed. Today, I will be true to who I am, what I want, and I will be honest with those around me.
No matter what we set as a goal, no matter what our hopes, dreams and desires, the joy from fulfilling those goals is not relevant when we fail to be true to ourselves. Each of us learns and grows at our own special pace. Our journey in life is always individual, as it should be.
Most of us can easily remember the times when as a child we were so busy wondering how fast we could grow up and get on with our lives, that we may have missed some of the very important action.
The truth of the matter is regardless of your current situation, we all have a core to which we are true. You are who you are on the inside. Even while outer roles and situations change, we continue to keep the core of our beliefs and practices throughout our lives. The ability to change and grow is often enhanced by our core beliefs and we usually chose to identify and associate with others who share those core beliefs.
Like the innumerable people we meet on our journey through life, share the up and the downside of the roles you’ve had to play over the course of your life. The ability to enjoy being both teacher and student is a unique situation which allows for special insight when we recognize it.
Also it’s important to remember, Happily Ever After is a state of mind, and not a destination.
